Tech Folien SAF & VSP

Info

Both SAF and VSP were engineered to meet the demands of down gauging films to reduce costs and waste, but keeping the strength.  These films are used as readily as builders rubble sacks as they are as bone protection films.  With superior strength and puncture resistance these films convert fantastically well offering excellent seal strength and are available in a range of colours and thicknesses.

Features and Benefits

In many areas where very thick LD materials have been used, SAF1 to SAF9 have proven stronger and more easily converted at a lower thickness, from 140 to 80mu. The down gauging of these films have had a positive effect on both yield savings (£) and the environment. The SAF films can be manufactured in both natural and a full range of colours. Economics and environmental issues are strong driving forces towards even thinner film. From packaging based on the classical VSP, and LLD/LD blends, our markets have moved to Metallocenes and blends containing Metallocenes. Our down gauging proved successful in showing our customers huge yield savings.

Application

The range of SAF films are presently being used in the following applications:

  • Coin bags
  • Note bags
  • Courier bags and Security mail order bags
  • Detergent packaging
  • Drum liners
  • Milk powder and Soup packaging for point of sale

VSP is Medium Density Polythene, which has been manufactured from hexene copolymers.

VSP 7 was designed to meet the ever-increasing demands for the Mail Order markets. The growth rate for VSP 7 in the 90’s was phenomenal, replacing paper and much thicker polyethelenes for the packaging of goods that were delivered to your home from within the mail order system.

To complement the VSP 7, Tech Folien Ltd introduced a new material, VSP 8. This material was from the same family of films, but gave excellent tear resistance and higher elongation, although a little less rigid. It also has an excellent seal strength.

Tech Folien Ltd still produces both VSP 7 and VSP 8 to the same recipe as it did when first developed in 1990. In recent times customers have looked more and more towards this type of product to replace Low Density, as the strength, yield and cost equation becomes a ‘no-contest’. On average we are looking to down gauge Low Density films by 50% and still have an improved mechanical strength.

The VSP range can be produced in any sheet width and as low as 450mm as a layflat tube, thickness range is from 25 micron to 200 micron produced in any colour.

VSP can be supplied corona discharge treated for print or plain and has a broad sealing window for conversation.
